Urban Heat Islands

Most of the reported temperature measurements have been taken in the more densely populated areas (which through their normal activity generates heat) while rural and remote areas, let alone oceans, contribute few data points. Balloon and satellite data show no warming beyond our 0.6o C per century rise, as earth awakens from the glacial times. Thus as urban areas have grown and continue to do so, temperature data becomes increasingly skewed. This general effect has been studied in a number of places in the world, including Asia, North America and the rest of the world.
