Marita Noon writes that U.S. President Obama is spreading lies about climate change to promote his plan for costly restrictions on energy use. At the U.S. Senate hearings of July 18, 2013, no expert witness could support Obama's statement "the climate is warming faster than anybody anticipated five or 10 years ago.”
The graph below shows the global temperature index from the U.K Met Office. The best fit line shows there has been no warming for over 16 years despite continuing CO2 emissions.
Marita cites a report presented by Senator David Vitter that shows 19 pages of predictions and claims that are "that are false or foolish". She recounts a list of silly predictions of increasing severe weather by Democratic Senators Barbara Boxer and witness Heidi Cullen.
Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. counters these claims by presenting data that shows there has been no measured increase in severe weather events. Pielkle's testimony says, "It is misleading, and just plain incorrect, to claim that disasters associated with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods or droughts have increased on climate timescales either in the United States or globally. It is further incorrect to associate the increasing costs of disasters with the emission of greenhouse gases.”
Dr. Roy Spencer gave testimony where he says most published papers imply that humans have likely had some affect on global temperatures, but this includes almost all climate skeptics. There is no consensus on the amount of the human-caused contribution to climate change.
Marita writes, "Spencer tore apart the oft-quoted figure that 97% of scientists support the global warming consensus."
Spencer presented data showing the Modern Warm Period is not significantly different from the Medieval Warm Period or the Roman Warm Period, here. Spencer presented his graph showing the huge descrepancy between 73 climate model runs and actual temperature measurements by satellites and weather balloons, here.
Marita notes that the Democrat Senator never mentioned the cost of their proposed policies and how they disproportionally hurt the poor. She concludes by saying, "The hearing’s “take-home points:” Obama lied. Boxer and Cullen’s predictions are false. The models are inaccurate. So, for this we are going to ruin the economy and disproportionately hurt the poor?"
