The live event combined our formal Book Launch with a speaking event by two of the key authors of “Energy & Climate at a Glance.” Published by Canadians for Sensible Climate Policy (CSCP) and The Heartland Institute, this is the handy guide-book that Friends of Science Society has been promoting over the past few weeks. We also offered a live stream for persons out of Calgary and those who preferred to view the presentation from home.
Many Canadians have been baffled by the lack of common sense of recent climate and energy policies. Now Canada is compromised by its own contrived ‘climate leadership’ versus the Trump administration’s tariff threats and departure from the Paris Agreement. Canada has a legislated requirement to meet Net Zero targets, even though the Paris Agreement was voluntary.
“Energy & Climate at a Glance” is a handy, plain language guide to the key 22 facts you need to know to rationally evaluate policies like Net Zero. This booklet gives you the tools to ‘say no’ and to ‘nix net zero’ – to argue the evidence on the unrealistic, unaffordable and unnecessary Net Zero climate targets.
Lead author Ron Davison, P. Eng. and contributing author Paul MacRae presented a synopsis of their work and answered questions from the audience.
Net Zero – Climate Policy is All Pain, for Minimal Gain!
RON DAVISON discussed the Paris Agreement, Net Zero and ‘the science’ of climate change. He shows that it “futile folly” for Canadians to make a tremendous sacrifices with Net Zero targets, when China is given free rein to ignore the Paris Agreement guidelines.
Ron's career focused on the oil and gas industry as a successful reservoir/petroleum engineer (including data management and computer modeling). Semi-retirement in 2015 opened up time to research the issue of "Global Warming".

Why We Can’t Abandon Fossil Fuels, and Why We Shouldn’t Try
PAUL MACRAE shows that fossil fuels are essential for thousands of indispensable products and are also a key component of chemical fertilizers without which half the planet’s population would starve. He shows the economic absurdity of Net Zero policies, which are ridiculously expensive for very little gain in reduced temperatures and should be abandoned in favour of adapting to climate change.
For almost 40 years, Paul MacRae was as an editor and writer at The Globe and Mail, Bangkok Post, and most recently the Victoria Times Colonist, where he was an editorial writer and columnist. In 2002 he began an MA in English at the University of Victoria. After graduating in 2005 he taught writing at UVic, University Canada West, Athabasca University and Royal Roads University, retiring in 2020.
